"Just partying"
Playing with white balance is fun. Since I decided not to take my camera to the Melvins show (main reason being big, crazy, drunk guys; expense camera), I took a picture of the poster I got last night. The poster is actually tan and an extremely neon green. So yeah the concert was freakin' awesome. Trevor Dunn Trio opened up. They had they're moments. The drummer was pretty good and of course Trevor was, but the guitar player sucked. The songs had they're moments but most of the time it just work for me. They played for an hour. Then came the mighty Melvins. I've seen the Melvins three times and from my experience I've noticed two trends: 1)They keep getting louder 2)Kevin Rutmanis keeps getting wierder.
Highlights:
--Covering "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" as an intro into "Queen" from Stoner Witch
--Hearing "The Bloated Pope" live and finally hearing "Bar-X-The Rocking M" from Stag live (Sidenote for those who actually know what song I'm talking about, the one with horns on it, for the song Kevin was making the horn noises with his mouth)
--Buzz's banter before the last song (paraphrasing): "So it's been 2 years since we've been here, and I saw someone I recognized from the show and asked him, what have you been up to for the last 2 years? He replied, 'Just partying.' Just partying. JUST PARTYING. Just Partying. What has he been doing for the last 2 years? Just partying. 2 years. Just partying. I was impressed actually. I guess his dad pays for everything. I should have got his number. So Dale, what have you been up to for the past 2 years?" "Just partying" "Kevin, what have you been up to?" "I was talking to some guys in the bathroom" "No, what have you been doing for the past 2 years?" "OH ... just partying" After that, Buzz asked the soundguy what he had been doing and the soundguy just starting yelling a bunch of nonsense, so Buzz said "Still partying I guess" and then Kevin kept yelling. Very funny. Probably not as funny to read.
--At the end of the last song they played, they stopped suddenly, Buzz leaves the stage and Dale begins singing "Davy, Davy Crockett ...." while Kevin just laughs loudly in the microphone, then they finished the song and left. At that point, they blasted "Hit Me Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears and everyone left.
And Gid, I had no luck finding them after the show, I think they were crushed by the trashcan next to me's bass-induced bouncing. I'm using my spare pair right now.
